No holiday at Benar Cottages is complete without reaching the 1,085m summit of Yr Wyddfa (formerly known in English as Snowdon). It is one of Wales’ most awe-inspiring mountains and the highest summit in Wales. Yr Wyddfa is the mythical resting place of the giant Rhita Gawr, who demanded King Arthur’s beard for his cloak and was killed for his temerity. On a clear day, you can see Ireland from the summit. Thanks to the Mountain Railway you won’t have to climb all the way to the top if you would prefer to let the train take the strain.
Travel time from Benar Cottages: 25 minutes (Pen-y-Pass)
Just a short trip in the car and you will be ready to climb to the top of Yr Wyddfa – but – here at Benar Cottages, we want to help you get the most out of the experience so that you really enjoy your day. We can help you to find a quieter time to climb and a less well-trodden route. Instead of driving to one of the car parks, how about taking the Sherpa – a brilliant bus service from Betws-y-Coed covering all the major routes up the mountain. And if you really enjoy climbing mountains, how about Moel Siabod? It’s closer and if you time it right, you will have the summit to yourself!
