Yr Wyddfa

No holiday at Benar Cottages is complete without reaching the 1,085m summit of Yr Wyddfa (formerly known in English as Snowdon). It is one of Wales’ most awe-inspiring mountains and the highest summit in Wales. Yr Wyddfa is the mythical resting place of the giant Rhita Gawr, who demanded King Arthur’s beard for his cloak and was killed for his temerity. On a clear day, you can see Ireland from the summit. Thanks to the Mountain Railway you won’t have to climb all the way to the top if you would prefer to let the train take the strain.
